Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Full-Time)

Location: Darwin, Northern Territory


About the Company

Our client, a Darwin-based company specializing in bituminous sealing, is part of a leading global road surfacing group. With a proven track record of delivering high-quality road surfacing projects across the Northern Territory, they are seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join their team.

The Role

This role is based at the Darwin depot, but travel across the NT will be required to support the Sealing Crew. Reporting to the Projects & Operations Manager, you will maintain and repair the company’s mobile plant, heavy vehicles, and equipment.


Key Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns.
  • Repair faulty or damaged mechanical parts.
  • Perform routine repairs to plant and equipment.
  • Complete scheduled services and maintenance activities in line with designated schedules.
  • Participate in risk management and hazard identification processes.
  • Maintain critical spares inventory.
  • Conduct safety checks and complete damage reports.
  • Record repairs and faults in the maintenance register as needed.
  • Report near-miss incidents, complete investigations, and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Ensure safety of colleagues, contractors, and the public during tasks.
  • Be flexible with working hours to meet project demands.
  • Travel to remote locations and work weekends as required.
  • Be a team player with a positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 10 years’ experience as a Qualified Truck mechanic (REQUIRED)
  • 5 years + in the bituminous surfacing industry (IDEALLY)
  • Experience of Euro Six Trucks, including Volvo, Hino, Scania, Mercedes & DAF
  • Previous experience of  Schaefer and Secmair sprayers would be highly regarded.
  • Certificate III in Engineering – Highway Trucks (or a recognized international trade assessment by Vetassess or similar)
  • An Australian Truck licence – HR minimum (HC highly regarded), or a recognized international equivalent with an ability to cross transfer when in Australia.
  • An Australian Forklift Licence, or a recognized international equivalent
  • First Aid & CPR certification – advantageous.
  • Construction Induction (White) Card certification (assistance available for the right candidate).
