Our client is a leading provider of bituminous and quarried products, coupled with specialist contract paving and bituminous surfacing services. They cater to Victorian, South Australian, Southern New South Wales, Northern Territory, and Tasmanian markets, bringing together expertise from multiple independent brands.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Auto Electrician to join the Workshop Team based out of the Bituminous Surfacing Business Unit located in Melbourne, Victoria.
The Role
Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Auto Electrician – Field & Workshop to join their maintenance team on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will excel in diagnosing and repairing various electrical systems while servicing a wide range of Spray Sealing, Asphalt, and Quarrying Plant and Equipment, including air-conditioning systems.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Breakdown Management: Respond to and manage unplanned breakdowns of electrical systems by visual inspection of vehicles/equipment, diagnosing faults, and coordinating with workshop and supervisors for appropriate actions or repairs.
- Technical Expertise: Use electronic testing equipment, wiring diagrams, and specification listings to diagnose and repair electrical faults.
- Component Repairs: Repair, test, and maintain electrical parts and wiring such as alternators, starter motors, automotive air conditioning systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, hoses, and re-gassing.
- New Installations: Handle fit-outs for heavy and light vehicles, including installation of automotive electrical accessories like lighting, radio equipment, GPS systems, and electric braking systems.
- Administrative Duties: Complete fault reports, repair logs, and action invoices for purchased parts or equipment.
- Safety Compliance: Uphold the highest level of safety standards in the workshop and onsite.
- Teamwork: Exhibit a “can-do” attitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
- Flexibility: Be willing to adjust working hours, including weekends, and travel to remote locations as required.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Auto Electrical trade.
- Experience with specialised construction equipment brands such as Volvo, Hino, Scania, Mercedes, DAF, Schaefer, and Secmair is highly regarded.
- Certificate III Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent.
- Certificate II Automotive Air Conditioning Technology.
- Experience with bituminous surfacing equipment and heavy vehicles is advantageous.
- Licences & Certifications:
- Light and heavy vehicle driver’s licence (HR essential, HC advantageous).
- Forklift Licence – advantageous.
- First Aid & CPR Certification – advantageous.
- Construction Induction (White) Card certification (assistance available for the right candidate).
